the Bow: paperdress

The theme for the project ‘The Bow’ was welcoming a prominent guest. I started from the idea of bowing before an exalted person from the time of the Sun King. The basic dress is made from old newspapers and wallpaper paste, and was cut, glued and ripped until it acquired its eventual form. The next step was to take photographs in the studio, capturing each movement from standing upright to the full bow. The purpose was to bind the photographs into a loose-leafed booklet. Leafing rapidly through the booklet reveals the movement: the static motionless poses turn into an elegant bow.
